Basler Solutions for Westinghouse Rotating Diode Module Replacement

Basler Electric can supply form and fit replacements for the original diode modules with improved mechanical integrity for many additional years of reliable service.

Although less costly, Basler diode modules utilize current technology to reduce maintenance and minimize balancing time on startup, with probable savings in repair costs. New diode modules can be manufactured to match the weight of the original components, or you can purchase a complete sets of new modules with reduced and closely matched weights to shorten the balancing time of the rotating exciter.

Approximately 10-12 variations of the Westinghouse diode heat sink assemblies evolved over the years.

To learn about the benefits of this approach, see the Technical Paper, New Solutions for Brushless Exciter Rectifying Modules Reduce Downtime During Overhaul

For more information, review the Rotating Diode Exciter Module FAQs. To determine your type of diode, see Application Notes EX-BRUSHLESS, EX-BRUSHLESS2 and EX-BRUSHLESS3

Minimizing Failures in Power Semiconductors

Power semiconductors are a family of devices used in all types of industries mainly for AC to DC conversion and motor speed control.

When a power semiconductor fails, expensive loss of production is the immediate result. In most cases, unscheduled downtime, i.e. loss of production, due to faulty or marginal components, can be avoided by testing the power semiconductors regularly during scheduled outages. It is imperative that only instruments specifically designed for testing power semiconductors are used.
