BE1-11: Now with Distance Protection – and more!


Basler Electric is pleased to announce the latest addition to its BE1-11 Multifunction Protective Relaying system. Distance protection is now available in our BE1-11f and BE1-11t versions for feeder and transformer protection applications.

The BE1-11f now includes distance (21), Overexcitation (24) and directional power (32) protection — and the BE1-11t now includes distance (21), sync-check (25), and reclosing (79) functions. These optional features add to an already extensive number of protection functions and, as with all Basler products, use our BESTCOMSPlus® PC software for simple, easy, and trouble-free setup.
  • The Distance (21) elements offer protection that’s easy to coordinate when compared with overcurrent elements in the same zone of protection. Distance elements enhance power system stability, decrease equipment disturbances, and are preferred in distributed generation systems with variable generation capacity.
  • The Overexcitation (24) element protects against overexcitation of a transformer that can be caused by the addition of distributed resources on a utility distribution system.
  • The Sync-Check (25) element prevents closing of a breaker when power sources on each side of the breaker are not in sync. The 25 element ensures that Phase Angle, Frequency, and Voltage Magnitude are within predefined limits.
  • The Directional Power (32) elements detect under/over directional power to control backup/local power generation when tying to the grid may not be desired or permitted. Power elements are used to detect when local power generation goes below a minimum import level (forward under power) or when power is exported to the grid (reverse over power).
  • The Reclosing (79) element provides automatic reclosing of breakers with multiple timed recloses. Most faults clear themselves; automatic reclosing allows quick reestablishment of power.
