Environmental awareness is a global concern. Therefore, there is a push to reduce energy and emissions in ship/port power conversion systems. Some ports require ships to use port power systems to maintain the daily marine load after the ship docks. Early marine generator systems do not have the ability to connect with the port power system. After the ship berths, it usually reduces the load, stops the diesel generator set, and then connects to the port power. This is not only cumbersome, but it interrupts the power supply to the ship’s load.
The Basler DGC-2020HD and DECS-150 were integrated in a ship and port power switching system that uses the automatic synchronization and load transfer functions to achieve uninterrupted transfer of loads by controlling generator and grid circuit breakers. In addition, a variety of built-in protection functions are used for the power switching process. The DECS-150, together with the DGC-2020HD, reduces the impact of reactive current during synchronous closing with its voltage matching function and accurate voltage regulation ability.
After grid connection, the DGC-2020HD starts to slowly transfer the ship load to the port power. When the ship power is less than a certain value, it turns off the generator circuit breaker to complete the ship port power conversion. It performs these steps in reverse when the ship is ready to leave the dock.
